Wax Carving Day Class

Rita Romano

Hi everyone!

For a while now I've been wanting to try the ancient technique of wax carving. I attended a day class at the London Jewellery School yesterday and really enjoyed it and I met some great jewellers along the way too! It can be quite lonely working from home so it was nice to work with other people even if only for the day.

With this technique, you can achieve much more 3D forms than using wire or sheet metal alone. A carving of the piece of jewellery to be made is initially made from wax, whether it's from a block, tube, sheet etc). A silicone mould of the wax piece is then created so that molten silver, gold or other metal can then be poured into it to recreate your piece in metal and bringing the design to life!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect but it was a refreshing change to using just metal but also a lot messier(!) - it was so easy to work with due to its softness but there's still a lot of time and effort that goes into making designs from wax.

It was a really interesting class to attend to learn some essential techniques and it's safe to say that I will definitely be using these new skills in my own work.

Stocking Fillers!

Rita Romano

I've neglected my blog for a few months so I think it's time for a blog post! With a few Christmas craft fairs coming up (please check my 'Events' page for more details!), I thought it would be a good idea to make some quick and simple sets of earrings ideal to give as a gift, or as a treat to yourself - I promise I won't tell anyone ;) they are so easy to wear and I will be keeping a pair for myself I think! There will be a new addition to my table at these fairs - a box full of these earrings (and more!) made from sterling silver, 14k gold and rose gold filled wire. I hope you're as excited about these as I am!

Now to get back to making, making, making! I look forward to seeing you soon.

Fashion Revolution Week

Rita Romano

I was a bit late at joining in with Fashion Revolution week (http://fashionrevolution.org/) 24th-30th April 2017, as I discovered this great movement a few days late! I wanted to write a blog post about it as I think it's such a brilliant idea.

Whether you were aware of #fashrev week or not, it's important to think of the people involved in the process of making our clothes and accessories. All my jewellery is proudly made by my own two hands in my messy little studio, so you know that when you buy a piece of my jewellery you are supporting a small business as well as adding a unique, handcrafted jewel to your collection.

It's all about making conscious choices whenever possible - in this day and age, and particularly here in the U.K, we are very lucky to be spoilt for choice when it comes to things being made right here in Britain.

Thank you for reading!

Etsy shop update!

Rita Romano

I'm happy to say that I've finally got around to adding some lovely jewels to my Etsy shop, meaning items can now be purchased online via Etsy - yay!

I've had my Etsy shop since 2012 (long story short, part of a project whilst I was doing my HND was to sell online so I made an account on Etsy) but haven't actually used it properly until now - oops! I'm really pleased with how it looks so far so do take a look if you can! Either click on 'SHOP' in the menu above or follow this link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ritaromanojewellery

Let me know what you think! :)

"We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!"

Rita Romano

I would just like to say a big thank you to all who have chosen to give a piece of Rita Romano Jewellery as a gift this Christmas. It really does mean everything to me knowing that people will be receiving something I've made with my own two hands and I just hope each piece will be worn, loved and enjoyed!

All the support I've received throughout this year has been amazing - everyone who purchases my jewellery as a treat for themselves or as a gift for a loved one, recommends me to a friend or family member or by simply taking one of my business cards for future reference also deserves a big thank you!

I wouldn't still be making jewellery if it wasn't for all you lovely people who choose something made by me.

I'd like to wish all past, present and future clients a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Here's to a year full of lots of peace, love, and sparkly jewellery!

First Blog Post!

Rita Romano

Hello everyone!

I thought it was time to start a blog page to share updates on my designs, exhibitions and information on anything and everything related to beautiful handmade jewellery. I hope you enjoy this new addition to my website!

First of all, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came along yesterday to support myself and the other talented artisans at the Made in Bedford Ex at the Harpur Suite in the town centre. It was a brilliant event and I truly enjoyed every moment.

For those who could not make it to the event, I am taking part in two other exhibitions before Christmas, one towards the end of November with the Artists' Network Bedfordshire in Ampthill, and the BedPop Christmas Shop which I also did last year - so come along to get your handmade Christmas gifts. Be sure to shop local this year and support small local businesses! For more information on events I'm taking part in, please see my 'EVENTS' page.

This swiftly brings me to the topic of bespoke orders that will be given as gifts this Christmas. I would absolutely love to play a part in creating that special piece of jewellery for a loved one, so please do contact me to discuss bespoke pieces as, after all, Christmas is just around the corner! I will not be taking any Christmas orders after the 11th December (dependant on the complexity of the piece to be made), so please get in touch before this date to make sure you are not too late!
